Anticipated Growth of Home Care Jobs

Getting a home care job may sound like it is right up your alley and a perfect fit for you. Yet, while you may be excited about the possibility of starting a home care job and helping people in a more one-on-one way, you may not be sure about whether or not to make the leap. How many people make a career shift one year only to be laid off and jobless the next year? Well, to assuage your worries, we will discuss the anticipated growth of home care jobs.

Home care jobs are in the health care industry, and this is an industry that has been experiencing nothing but growth over the last ten years. Hospitals and other care facilities are consistently posting job openings, and you have probably heard repeatedly that many of these facilities are experiencing problems due to a lack of staffing. As you can see, health care related jobs are not only in demand, but will continue to be over the next decade at least. People are always going to need health care, therefore, health care jobs will always be available.

As time goes on, though, more people want to be cared for in their homes. Which has brought about the boom in home care jobs. People are not always comfortable being in hospitals, and the added stress can actually make healing and rehabilitation take that much more time. In other cases, elderly people may need some assistance, but not as much assistance – not to mention expense – as is provided by an elder care facility. Again, this is where home care jobs come in. To say that the job, while defined under one title, is versatile and encompasses a wide variety of jobs and situations, is an understatement. All this information simply adds stability to the claim that there is longevity to be found in home care jobs.

What are the hard numbers, though? In 2008, the Bureau of Labor Statistics stated that the health care industry on the whole is projected to gain 3.2 million new jobs by 2018. This, of course, has a lot to do with the rapid growth of the population of elderly people needing care. Which lends to the statistics stating that home care jobs will grow by 46 percent during this time as well. This 46 percent growth is actually the largest growth percentage in the health care industry overall! Anticipated growth of home care jobs? Absolutely!
